ASL Interpreter

We are currently recruiting for independent contractor (non-employee) ASL Interpreter positions.

Job Description

  • Simultaneous interpreting skills set
  • Needs speed, a good memory and accuracy.
  • Communicates potential interpretation issues/concerns to provider(s) and Project Manager.
  • Possesses knowledge of the general subject/topic of the speeches that are to be interpreted.
  • Assists with rescheduling and cancellations, if needed.
  • Has general erudition and intimate familiarity with the ASL community.
  • Expresses thoughts clearly and concisely in both ASL and English.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information. Must be able to serve a diverse population in a fast paced, stressful environment with frequent changes in schedule and circumstances.
  • Balances strong organizational skills with sensitivity and diplomacy.
  • Abides by organization and department standards as well as the National Code of Ethics for Interpreters.


  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent. Continuing education and/or training or Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred.
  • RID certification or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in tactile ASL desirable.
  • Requires 1-3 or more years of training/experience in ASL interpretation.
  • Good knowledge of specialized industry (ie: law, medical, technology, etc.).
  • Requires good ASL and English language skills, including reading, writing, interpreting.
  • Must be a Washington State resident.
